Weekly Update WC 21.09.20

This week we have continued our interest in castles. We used magnifying glasses to carry out detective work finding out about the features of castles.

We also built castles outside out of card and made sandcastles with moats in the tuff tray. Of course we had to make shields to help us protect our castles, too!

We read Rapunzel this week and learnt that the princess was called Rapunzel because her mummy loved radishes. Rapunzel means radish! This lead us to having a tasting session, Lucy and Freddie especially enjoyed this!

Our P.E. this week was very exciting with a big focus on balancing. We balanced and travelled on benches, ran through ladder ropes and held egg and spoon challenges.

What a fun week! Have a lovely, restful weekend before another exciting week next week, full of fancy dress and exciting learning!

Weekly update wc 14.9.20

We have been practising getting dressed for PE. During our PE session, we thoroughly enjoyed exploring different ways to pass balls to our partner, as well as jumping over wiggly skipping ropes!

Towards the end of the week, we enjoyed building castles and making up stories about princesses and knights. We looked in information books to find out more about castles and who lived in them.

During the week commencing the 21st September, we will be continuing to explore the different sounds in words, as well as identifying how many sounds and syllables are in a word.

During our Maths sessions, we will be looking at numbers 4 – 8. This will include looking at how we can use our fingers to represent different numbers and problem solving with counting croc who often gets muddled when counting and representing numbers!

Our first week at school

Oak Class have settled amazingly well into school life, as well as learning the new routines and boundaries.

They have been exploring their new environment for most of the week and getting to know each other. Here are some of the activities they have been trying…

During the week commencing the 14th September, we will be using Cbeebies Numberblocks to help us with our counting and number recognition, initially looking at numbers 1 – 4.

We will also be exploring making different sounds with our mouths, as well as listening for different sounds in words prior to starting our Phonics sessions. Please look in your child’s bookbag for challenge cards that you can try at home in order to support their speech and sound development.
